Sophia Tsoumaki is a photographer based in Athens,Greece. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as, a Certification in Media and Communication from the Panteion University of Athens. She is an Integrative psychotherapist/Trauma & PTSD Therapist, Family Constellations Facilitator and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist.

Photography is her passion and a tool for self awareness since her student years. At age 23 she studied photography and became an active member of “Photo Circle”, a very well-known Art Photography Association in Athens from 1986 - 2000.

From 1988 - 2000 she collaborated with radio stations, music and women’ s magazines in Athens, working both as a photographer and a journalist. Many well known contemporary musicians, like Wim Mertens, Laurie Anderson, Marianne Faithful, Astor Piazzola, Diamanda Galas, Billy Bragg, Michael Nyman, Paul Roland, Blaine L.Reininger among others, were photographed (some of them were also interviewed) by her at that time.

Her photos have been featured in many music magazines and have been exhibited nationally and internationally, at Photo Festivals, art galleries and Museums like Kapralos Museum in Greece, Athens Street Photo Festival, Photometria Photo Center, RomePhotolab’s Street Photo Festival, LPM Livorno photo Festival, Pure Street Photography Awards Festival, Off- Arles Photo Festival, Women Street photographers El Bario New York art space, Women’s Photo Festival among others.

Her work, inspired by her practice as a therapist, utilizes intuition and emotional connection to deal with issues of identity, individuality, memory, belonging, trauma, healing and reconnection to self.

In 2021 her first self-published photobook titled ‘Light Matters’, reflected her personal experience during the Covid-19 pandemic.
